lenovo_s820_leaked_image_01

Lenovo appears to be working on a pair of mid-range devices to compete for buyers looking for more affordable devices. Although projected to be a middle tier device, the Lenovo S920 will reportedly come with a 5.3-inch screen in a case with narrow bezels, a quad-core processor, dual-SIM support, a decent battery clocking in at 2,250 mAh all running Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean when launched.

Joining the S920 will be the Lenovo S820, another quad-core cpu powered device. Images of the S820 show a handset clad in a bright red case. Chinese website MyDrivers.com indicates the S820 will be targeted at female shoppers. It is unclear what exactly would make the device more appropriate or appealing to women.

No other details about these two devices are available at present, so we will have to keep our eyes open for news about them, especially if they will end up available in markets outside China. In the meantime, check out the images below and ponder the idea that a quad-core, 5.3-inch device is now considered “mid-range.”

CM AOKP AOKP, CM teams add more supported devices for Android 4.2 ROMs

CyanogenMOD and AOKP teams have announced that they have added several new Android phones/tablets to their list of supported devices for Android 4.2-based ROMs. If you don’t already know, both AOKP and CM teams are currently in process to refine their Android 4.2 ROMs and have released the latest milestone builds in the last 24 hours.

CyanogenMOD team has now added support for Droid Bionic (targa), Droid Razr (spyder), Droid 3 (solana), Droid 4 (maserati), One X GSM (endeavoru), Kindle Fire (1st gen, otter) and Kindle Fire (2nd gen, otter2). These devices were not included in the CM 10.1 M2 release posted yesterday, but they have started getting CM 10.1 nightlies. Grab the download from here.

Bonus: LG Optimus L7 also got the first CM build today. It is not CM10.1, but CM10. The nightly can be grabbed from here.

Coming to AOKP, they have added support for Samsung Galaxy Note II (Verizon), Samsung Galaxy Note II (Sprint), Samsung Galaxy S III (Intl.), LG Nitro HD (AT&T), LG Optimus LTE (SKT) and LG Spectrum (Verizon).

The latest AOKP build for these devices will be available for download here. They are still churning out the builds, so check back after sometime.

Should be downloading this for the S3, already enjoying 4.1.2, with CPU clocked at 1.9Ghz, and GPU at 700 MHz ™®©

Are you using your S3 as a heater?

I was about to say the same thing. that’s kind of useless at that OC. lol. most games you’ll be fine at 1.5, 1.62

Its not that hot, even tho so what, what’s the big deal, at least enjoying the speed and responsivness, much better than standard junk crap! All electronics heat up, can’t you even bear the heat? If not get a cover™®©

O also changed kernel, and interchanged a class 10 32GB MC to 4GB RAM! Look it up on Play store, Ram expander.

You’ll like it. Some bug fixes in 4.2.2. I’ve been runing a 4.2.2 Linaro AOKP kang for a few days it seem to be the best 4.2+ rom yet.

Big yawn……nice little clikish offshoot of CM10. Supports too few devices and has an absolutely cryptic website. Not bad if you can figure out what to do with 100 options in the settings.

It turns out the process is pretty straightforward: Because most of the hard work has already been done by the developers behind the popular CyanogenMod custom ROM for Android devices.

Ubuntu Phone OS

Ubuntu Touch relies on a stripped-down version of CyanogenMod 10.1 for its Linux kernel, and support for hardware including audio, video, graphics, and modems.

So the Ubuntu Phablet git repository is actually just a mirror of CyanogenMod 10.1, but without features that aren’t needed such as Dalvik (the Java virtual machine that actually lets you run Android apps on an Android device).

CyanogenMod is capable of running on dozens of Android phones and tablets. And if you’ve got a device that can run CyanogenMod 10.1, you’ve pretty much got a device that can run Ubuntu Touch.

All you need to do is build a custom ROM for your device by following the instructions at the Ubuntu Wiki by basically building a custom version of CyanogenMod plus Ubuntu Touch running in a separate container. When you boot into Ubuntu Touch, you’re kind of booting an Android operating system which accesses the Ubuntu system via chroot so that you get an Ubuntu user interface instead of a typical Android UI.

While the process isn’t much different than building CyanogenMod from source, it’s not exactly a beginner-friendly project. But if the instructions are a little over your head, I suspect you may not have to wait long until a version of Ubuntu Touch is available for your Android phone or tablet.

Just keep in mind that Ubuntu for phones and tablets is still a pre-release preview at this point. Many features aren’t yet fully functional and the OS can get pretty sluggish at times.

Question by Brian: what android app make your phone a wifi hotspot for other devices?

Best answer:

Answer by dezmd
Wifi tehter, however you need root access to run this and it doesn’t work on my phones. Additionally its an ad-hoc connection type and many small (non-pc) devices don’t support this type of connection (other stock rom android phones, iphones, ipads, ipods).

Question by Alberto M: What does “root” mean for android devices?
I saw that I can get a toolkit for the Nexus 7. I do not know what that means:o. Please help. Thanks!!1

Best answer:

Answer by Cellphone Fanatic
To Root an Android cellphone is to hack the phones operating system. By doing this you can enable features not avaiable within the operating system, or download apps that have greater control of the phone. One of the most popular reasons people “Root” their android phone is so they can load a custom or leaked rom ( phone interface or operating system) .

Adobe Photoshop Touch Arrives on Amazon Kindle Devices /adobe-photoshop-touch-arrives-on-amazon-kindle-devices/ /adobe-photoshop-touch-arrives-on-amazon-kindle-devices/#comments Sat, 17 Nov 2012 01:42:34 +0000 extreme http://www.padreviewsandtips.com/apps/adobe-photoshop-touch-arrives-on-amazon-kindle-devices.html Continue reading

Adobe Photoshop Touch is already available for Android (and iOS), in fact an update was released just two months ago, but that doesn’t mean that Amazon’s Kindle devices have been supported, until now. Adobe on Thursday announced that after working “closely with Amazon,” Photoshop Touch now works with the latest Kindle Fires. You can get it now from the Amazon Appstore for $ 10.

Amazon released the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ today, and Adobe announced its PhotoShop Touch app now supports the device, as well as the updated 7-inch Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD devices. In other words, the first generation Kindle Fire is excluded, and the app only supports the newer devices running Android 4.0.

If you’re wondering why Photoshop Touch didn’t work on the previous Kindle devices, the answer is actually quite simple. The app requires Android version 3.1 (Honeycomb) or higher, while the previous Kindle Fire came with a modified version of Android version 2.3 (Gingerbread).

This release from Adobe today is a perfect example of how Amazon’s decision to ship its tablets with a modified version of Android requires a lot of additional work with app makers. Because the retailer isn’t simply offering the latest and greatest from Google on all its devices, it can’t support all the apps that, say, Nexus 10 users can access.

There’s no way Amazon can completely ensure that all Android apps work on its devices, but it can certainly try to get the big ones on board. That’s exactly what this release today exemplifies, and I think we can expect many more such announcements in the near future as the Kindle and Kindle Fire devices continue to grow in popularity.

For those into custom ROMs, it appears that the CyanogenMod team has pushed out some stable releases for a number of devices. If you head over to get.cm you’ll find a number of CM 10.0.0 releases are already available with more coming. Some of those devices include:

Now onto the bigger news. CyanogenMod announced that Android 4.2 – Jelly Bean will not be CM 11, but CM 10.1. My guess would be because it’s still Jelly Bean and not a new desert. With Android 4.2 now available in AOSP as of last night, we should see some new Android 4.2 ROMs available shortly. Hopefully CyanogenMod will get some nightlies going in the next few days. Wouldn’t we all like that?

So go ahead and flash some stable CM 10, and let’s see how long before we start seeing CM 10.1 nightlies being pushed out. Hopefully it’s just a matter of days.

Zillow, a publicly-traded real estate marketplace, just launched its free Mortgage Marketplace App for the iPad. This new application is designed to help home buyers find out what are their mortgage choices and how to find the right loan.

With the addition of this app, Zillow now has a total of 15 mobile apps in its portfolio. It claims that it also has the most popular suite of mobile real estate apps that will meet the needs of all home shoppers. Zillow, in case you didn’t know, is a service that helps you find your new home in any location. It brands itself as “your edge in real estate” and looks to be your resource for all your home buying needs.

Buyers who download this iPad application will find that there are numerous tools at their disposal in order to help get the right home for them. The company says that its Mortgage Marketplace App creates a transparent lending marketplace where borrowers can easily connect with reputable lenders in order to find the right payment plan for both parties.

The app combines this loan shopping experience with simple calculators and even animated charts to give the buyer a chance to understand what’s going on and how they can be a part of the process, not idly standing by and wondering what’s going on.

What Zillow’s Mortgage Marketplace App will do is utilize what it calls an “intuitive, visual interface” to share with the user how much they can afford to spend on their home, calculate how long it will take to pay off their mortgage, and whether refinancing is advantageous to their situation.

Users can easily and anonymously request personalized loan quotes from multiple providers while also reading through over 22,000 customer reviews of lenders in Zillow’s library.

Lastly, this iPad application has a “Get Pre-Approved” section that will work with preferred Zillow lenders who have the ability to approve borrowers before any real estate shopping begins.

With more than 35 million unique users accessing Zillows mobile apps just last month, this new app could help simplify the home buying process and empower the user to feel at ease with their iPad instead of having to move to a laptop in order to do exactly the same thing that they can do on mobile devices.

When you want to print a photo or other files that you have stored on your Android, how do you go about it? You could email a copy of the file to yourself and then print it out from your computer, but this seems like an unnecessarily lengthy process. You can connect your phone to your computer but… argh! Where has the USB cable gone?

If you’re yet to discover Cloud Print, this is an app that could be the answer to your printing problems. It enables you to print images and other documents from your phone or tablet without the need to connect to your computer. Read on to find out how it could help you.

Cloud Print is a service that can be used with almost any printer, enabling you to print documents from your Android device without the need to transfer files in any way. There are some printers that are described as being ‘Cloud ready’ but you do not need to have one.

Getting Up and Running Before you can start, there are two things you’re going to need – a copy of Cloud Print for your Android phone or tablet, and for your Mac or PC you’ll need to make sure that you have Google Chrome installed with Cloud Print enabled.

If you don’t already have Chrome installed, you should grab yourself a copy from www.google.com/chrome. Then pay a visit to the Cloud Print web site on your computer and click the ‘Add Classic printer’ button – the process is very much the same if you have a Cloud Ready Printer.
