Acer C710-2055 Chromebook Brings More Memory, Better Battery Life

Five months after releasing the C7 Chromebook, Acer today announced a step-up model to its Google Chrome OS-based laptop with more memory, better battery life and, of course, a higher price tag. Designed primarily for the education market, the Acer C710-2055 promises up to six hours of battery life and carries four gigabytes of RAM. The original C7 has 2GB RAM and up to four hour of battery life. With the upgrades, the C710-2055 is slightly more expensive than the original model, at $ 280 versus $ 200. It’s available starting today. The rest of the laptop’s features are unchanged from the C7. It has an 11.6-inch, 1,366 by 768 …

Violin Memory Prices New PCIe Chip to Win, Teams with Toshiba to Streamline Supply

Now for the specs.  Sustained performance using 4KB blocks measures at 120,000 IOPS for the 1.37 card, 1000, 270,000 and 540,000 IOPS for the 2.75, 5.5 and 11TB cards.  This figure jumps above one million IOPS in setups where 512KB blocks are used instead. The new Violin chips run barebone firmware that supports Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and VMware.  Compatibility for management software from other vendors will probably roll out with future patches. The other important feature of Velocity, beside the performance and support, is that the chips are completely self-contained. This means that software can be booted faster and without help from the host server, something that the competition – …

Toshiba goes perpendicular to solve MRAM’s power issues, rethink cache memory

Toshiba’s New STT-MRAM Memory Element Promises World’s Best Power Consumption and to Outperform SRAM 10 Dec, 2012 TOKYO-Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that the company has developed a prototype memory element for a spin transfer torque magnetoresistive random access memory (STT-MRAM) that achieves the world’s lowest1 power consumption yet reported, indicating that it has the potential to surpass the power consumption efficiency of SRAM as cache memory. Like all digital products, mobile devices, including smartphones and tablet PCs, rely on high-speed memory to supply the main processor with essential instructions and frequently requested data. Until now SRAM has provided the cache-memory solution. However, improving the performance of SRAM to …

Toshiba reduces mobile chip power use by two-thirds with new cache memory

Toshiba has announced the development of a new type of cache memory that promises to cut mobile processor power consumption by as much as two-thirds. Today’s mobile processors rely on high-speed static random-access memory (SRAM) to function. The problem with SRAM is it will only retain data when power is applied. That data also has to be refreshed regularly (many times a second), meaning it is a constant drain on a battery. And as chip performance has increased, so has the power required for SRAM and the leakage that occurs, meaning an alternative is highly desirable. Toshiba has developed STT-MRAM to solve the problem. MRAM is non-volatile memory, meaning it …

How can I install apps on memory card for Android phone?

Question by Louis Phan: How can I install apps on memory card for Android phone? Best answer: Answer by joe.attaboyYou cannot do this unless your phone has version 2.2 (FroYo) of Android installed, as that version has an apps-to-SD card feature. The feature is also in hacked, modded versions of the 2.1 Eclair version, but you need to root the device and install a modded ROM to get that working. This is not something I’d recommend unless you know what you’re doing. Otherwise, wait for your phone to get a FroYo update. Give your answer to this question below!
