Acer still plans to launch Windows RT tablet in 2013

Acer executives have been very open in the past several months about the fact they didn't like Microsoft entering into the PC hardware space, starting with the Windows RT-based Surface tablet. Acer went ahead and launched a number of Windows 8-based PCs in 2012 with touch screens (including the thin and light Acer Aspire S7 notebook) but previously announced plans to launch a Windows RT tablet were put on hold until at least the second quarter of 2013. This week Acer reconfirmed its plans to offer a Windows RT tablet sometime in 2013, but ITWorld.com reports that Acer executive Oliver Ahrens would not confirm a specific launch date. Ahrens said …

Fresh from the sell-out launch of its Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 devices, Google has begun the task of rolling out the Android 4.2 ‘Jelly Bean’ upgrade to its older devices. Launching exclusively on the LG-manufactured Nexus 4 smartphone and Samsung-built Nexus 10 tablet, Android 4.2 brings a selection of improvements to the platform from under-the-hood tweaks to improve performance to an impressive 360-degree panoramic photo mode. Megan Fox Leads Acer’s Windows 8 Push as Windows RT Plans Get Delayed

If you needed any more convincing that Windows 8 and Windows RT are two separate and distinct operating systems, look no further than Acer. The Taiwanese computer maker threw its full weight behind Windows 8 laptops, culminating in a newly announced high-dollar holiday ad campaign starring Hollywood celebrities Megan Fox and Kiefer Sutherland and designed to draw attention to the company’s Aspire S5 and S7 Ultrabooks.   The same day that the company pulled back on the curtain on that awareness-raising endeavor, however, Acer president Jim Wong said that plans to release a Windows RT tablet have been pushed back until at least the second quarter of next year, ostensibly …

Got an Acer tablet and wondering if you'll get Android 4.1, a.k.a. Jelly Bean? Wonder no more: I've got all the official info, straight from the horse's mouth. CyanogenMod Working On OTA Update Solution, Plans On Dropping ROM Manager In The Process

CyanogenMod is about to become a little bit better for all by bringing its own OTA update system to the masses. Many of you are scratching your heads and wondering what this means, right? Well if you’re a CM ROM user, you’re well-aware that in order to grab an update, you would traditionally use ROM Manager which allows users to quickly and efficiently pull updates manually to their ROMs. The only catch with ROM Manager is that it’s not open-source, unlike the CM ROM itself. So the CM team decided enough is enough and developed its own open-source updating method within its own builds. The newly developed OTA update solution …
