Acer (yes, Acer) thinks Windows 8 PC sales will do better in 2013

That's not true. the 3317u in the w700 is rated at 1.7Ghz,which it never goes below. Nobody is screwing you over. What you are mad about though is the turbo boost not running at its full potential. Turbo boost can go up to 2.6Ghz when temps permit, and when the temperature starts getting high,it starts downclocking towards 1.7Ghz to cool the chip down. Except, acer disables turboboost when you hit a certain temperature,a temperature that's much lower than what the chip can handle. Therefore you are not getting the best performance this chip can give. The reason they MAY be doing this is because their cooling is insufficient to get the chip …

Free Games and Sales: Angry Birds, Mass Effect and more!

By Jim Squires | Mar 8, 2013 | There must be some really crafty birds working in the marketing department at Rovio. The highlight of this week’s sales roundup is, without a doubt, Angry Birds. …but should it be? The game has been out for more than three years, and has sold (doing math… doing math…) a kajillion copies already. If you ask me, I say it’s a trick. What better way to get free publicity then to give away a game that EVERYBODY already owns?!?! Don’t worry though – there are plenty of great deals that aren’t of the avian variety, including a few new bundles and plenty of …

Google Play and iOS games exceed the sales of dedicated handheld titles last quarter

By Joe Jasko | Feb 22, 2013 | The gaming industry has certainly come a long way since the only way to game on the go was with your chunky old GameBoy. But it seems now we’re in the midst of another big change, as mobile games are slowly beginning to overtake the sales of dedicated portable gaming software. According to App Annie’s latest Portable Gaming Report, the combined sales from iOS and Google Play mobile platforms exceeded the total sales of dedicated handheld games in the fourth fiscal quarter of 2012, ending on December 31. By Jim Squires | Feb 8, 2013 | It’s Friday. There’s a pretty good chance that means its paycheck day. But why use that money for silly things like food and shelter when there are games to be played! This weekend’s list might look a little short, but looks can be deceiving. For example, hidden among the games you see below is a chance to buy any PopCap game you could ever want for 50% off? Or a chance to play the indie darling Waveform for less than $ 2? Or a chance to get a unique iOS hidden object game for free? Of course, if we were negligent in …

Shocker! A video game trailer’s popularity foretells sales

Can the popularity of a trailer for a video game tell you whether the game will sell or not? Atul Bagga, a game analyst at Lazard Capital, thinks so. His firm analyzed the last three years of top 60 games, and the results suggest that the number of views for launch trailers correlates with actual sales. That means that investors would do well to study those numbers when deciding whether a big game will affect a company’s stock price. “We believe that the number of views, taken together with our checks around preorder activity, could help investors estimate sales of upcoming titles,” Bagga said. “Similarly, the correlation between likes and …
