Samsung offers a tool on its Android phones and tablets that lets you keep a video playing in a small window while you’re running other apps. But you don’t need a Samsung device to do that.

Floating YouTube Popup Video is a free app which does exactly what the name suggests: It provides a pop-up window for watching YouTube videos from any screen on your phone or tablet.

Floating YouTube Popup Video

Here’s how it works: You install the free app, open the YouTube app and find a video you want to watch. Then tap the share icon and choose to share the video with the Floating YouTube app.

This will bring the video up in a small window floating over your home screen. The video will keep playing even if you switch apps. You can resize or move the window.

While it’s kind of a nifty trick, it’s not really all that useful most of the time — because you can’t resize other Android apps. That means the video will almost always be on top of something else.

So you can watch a video while looking at the bottom of your email list, an instant message, or your phone dialer.

I suppose this could work in some instances — do you really need to see the whole screen to send a text message? But mostly it’s just a neat trick for adding a bit of Samsung multiview-like performance to most Android devices.

Robot enthusiasts may find this hard to pass up: a new app for iPad provides an interactive look at the history of robotics by compiling a wealth of information and media. Developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Robots for iPad contains a massive database of 129 of the world’s most recognizable robots. Longtime favorites like Honda’s Asimo are featured, though the collection also includes recent breakthroughs like IBM’s Watson, the Ekso exoskeleton, MakerBot’s 3D printers, and even Google’s self-driving car. Every robot “biography” calls for some sort of direct user interaction. Some have you tap through a sequence of photos while others allow you to swipe for a 360-degree view of the bot on screen. Those experiences are further enhanced by comprehensive specifications and background for each robot, videos, and audio interviews with experts in the field.

Thankfully the app’s developers don’t take the subject matter too seriously, with extras like the ability to rank robots by creepy appearance adding an element of fun for younger audiences. Robots for iPad will cost you $ 4.99 in the App Store and is compatible with all iPad models, though Retina optimizations mean those using Apple’s latest full-size tablets are in for the best experience. Regardless of what hardware you choose to run it on, the app shouldn’t be missed by anyone with even the slightest interest in robotics.

While it may seem like an obvious integration, it has been a long time coming – the latest YouTube Android app update automatically pairs your Android devices and Google TV on the same WiFi network.

Screenshot 16 YouTubes Android app now lets you beam videos direct to Google TV

This is much like AirPlay for iOS devices, and acts as a remote control that lets you pause, scroll and navigate to the next video as it plays on the TV. You can also find another video to watch or browse the Web on your device, while the video plays.

Companies such as TVersity already offer similar functionality to this, and it recently launched AirFlinger as an “open alternative to AirPlay”, built on open standards and not restricted to any particular mobile OS or TV connected device. It’s worth noting that AirFlinger isn’t an app, and you can’t download it to your mobile phone – it’s shipping as an SDK for pay TV operators and video publishers to integrate with their existing mobile apps.

Interestingly, the YouTube/Google TV integration allows multiple devices to be connected to the TV, so friends can add to a playlist. While it’s Android only for now (the update presumably will be landing on Google Play shortly), the feature will be arriving on more devices in the near future.

No idea what file type your phone creates, so why not upgrade your computer and use video editor that can take the video right off your phone and edit them. All these programs that work with HD can save a file so it is Windows usable.

A program with over 2000 effects, easy to learn and can do things Windows movie Maker could never do. Another program with even more effect and Timeline space also.

Pinnacle Studio 14 HD Ultimate & Sony Vegas Pro 10

Screen Shot, Top Picture – http://asimplelife.ca/nle.html Upgrade your computer to AVCHD specs below and you can run both programs seen on my Web Page on your computer. Just Rejig the search term below in the YouTube search, from the instructions below.

This is not a program that can run on any computer, see below –

If interested, link below takes you to the site, but you can get this $ 80 program for free. Do this by opening a web browser, surfing over to YouTube. Once there, in the search box on that site, enter ‘Pinnacle Studio 14′ or ‘Sony Vegas Pro 10’. You’re looking for free download, find a link or video that says that, in the video description, there will be link for a free download. Nintendo Direct! Beaming the latest Nintendo brilliance directly into the depths of your brainbox. Or at least, showing off videos to make you salivate over upcoming 3DS games.

We recapped the whole show earlier today, but sometimes words alone are not enough. That’s why we’re delighted to discover that the ever reliable Nintendomination Youtube channel has enterprisingly extracted a bunch of trailers from the Nintendo Direct broadcast today.

One of the heaviest hitters from the Japanese presentation today was the announcement of a new 3DS Professor Layton. Feel free to see it in action for yourself below, as introduced by Level-5′s boss and his lovely hair.

Lovely animation, headscratching puzzles and conversing with slightly odd-looking members of the general public… it’s all there. The ancient glowy machinery is certainly mysterious, but we’ll have to wait until at least next year before we can unravel the mysteries herein.

How depressing. If only a CGI lady with doll-like physical beauty and grace could distract us from this.

Oh, look! It’s Bravely Default: Flying Fairy time!

Tiz as a pirate! We knew he was hiding something. Now we know his vaguely Guybrush Threepwood default clothing isn’t a coincidence.

With stirring music, epic apparel aplenty and a remarkably nice CGI setpiece or two to share, Bravely Default continues to impress.

But if you’re looking for frenzied action, EX Troopers is the way to go.

What delightfully exciting lives these people lead.

It’s hard to believe that EX Troopers is an offshoot of the grim snowy Lost Planet series, but despite its utter change of art-style and more upbeat direction, they are indeed part of the same universe. Boggles the mind, but in a very good way.

Still want more? How about that Inazuma Eleven compilation?

See, the real sport should be like this. The crazy hairstyles are, at least, just like the real thing. This one’s got to be an international release, right? Everyone likes football/soccer! Probably!

There’s still plenty more from the presentation to be seen, such as Paper Mario and Animal Crossing. But in the meantime, what’s your take on the trailers so far?

Find out more in the Bravely Default: Flying Fairy | EX Troopers | Inazuma Eleven 1 2 3 Legend Of Mamoru Endo | Professor Layton Choubunmei To A No Isan Hub.

CODEMASTERS has announced it will showcase its latest game preview videos for both F1 2012 and F1 Race Stars, along with an announcement trailer for GRID 2, the long awaited sequel to their BAFTA award winning street racing title, at the multi-play gaming event at The Giant Screen cinema, Millennium Point, Birmingham, on August 21, 2012.

The event, which starts at 4.30pm, gives digital gaming fans across the region the chance to take part in an interactive session as a participant of wallFour’s unique 100 player game.

It is the first time that The Giant Screen at Millennium Point, Birmingham will have been used to stage a laser play gaming event. Fans of multiplayer gaming will also get to rub shoulders with industry experts and local games creators before the real fun begins.

This unique opportunity forms part of Birmingham Science Park’s 2012 LAUNCH series of games events, sponsored by bluegfx, which culminates in a two-day future gaming conference in November as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week. The Giant Screen games meet-up will bring together experts from the gaming and digital industry, including representatives from big global names Sony Playstation, Codemasters and Sega, through to indie games studios and students interested in a career in digital gaming.

Rich Eddy, Director of Communications at Codemasters said, “Birmingham Science Park’s 2012 LAUNCH series of events always brings new ideas to the stage and is a superb platform to highlight the digital gaming talent here in the Midlands. For Codemasters, being part of The Giant Screen event provides a thoroughly exciting opportunity to highlight our forthcoming games and showcase the latest trailers for F1 2012, F1 Race Stars and GRID 2 on the largest Dolby digital projection cinema screen in the region.”

The Giant Screen event will see the cinema transformed into a hive of interactive activity as 100 participants join forces in simultaneous game play to complete their mission.

wallFour, a new ground-breaking live event gaming company based at Birmingham Science Park, will be showcasing Renga, the world’s first 100 player co-operative laser game, which is controlled entirely by the audience. Using laser pointers, participants will interact directly with the cinema screen in a quest for victory.

Philip Singleton, CEO at Millennium Point said, “We are delighted to be showcasing this ground-breaking event and partnering with industry experts from the technology and gaming world.

“The Giant Screen provides an excellent platform for bringing huge numbers of people together to enjoy interactive game play and we are eager to build on this experience and offer more events like this in the future”.

Birmingham’s Eastside Quarter is fast becoming the City’s hub for digital gaming expertise, with close to 60 new start-up tech businesses having joined Birmingham Science Park’s acclaimed Entrepreneurs for the Future programme in the last two years.

Matthew Hidderley, Business Development Manager at Birmingham Science Park said, “The LAUNCH event programme is the biggest of its kind for the UK’s digital gaming industry. It’s great that this next event will be a true collaboration between Birmingham Science Park and Millennium Point’s Giant Screen, showcasing the work of one of the Quarter’s most exciting tech start-ups; wallFour. Having 100 people playing a game together on a single screen could be the next big thing in digital gaming, so it’s brilliant that it’s taking place here in Birmingham.”

Over 200 people are expected to attend the event and anyone interested in coming along should register in advance at http://launchconference.co.uk/giant-screen/ For a limited time, tickets are available at just £1, so get on board – quick!
